MINDORO TOWN IMPROVES COMPETITIVENESS
Bongabong, ORIENTAL MINDORO – After being chosen as a site for the national government’s Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2) program, the town of Bongabong in Oriental Mindoro adds another feather in its cap after the Department of Trade and Industry included the municipality among the country’s top 50 most improved local government units. Placing 45th in DTI’s 2019 Most Improved Ranking under the agency’s annual Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, Bongabong was the only locality from the entire island of Mindoro to have made it in DTI’s 50 most improved LGUs in its annual ranking of competitive municipalities.
The national agency based its ranking on four criteria: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency. “We are delighted with this development because first, this improved our ranking from 386th spot in 2018 to 270th place in 2019, allowing us to be included in the 50 most improved local government units,” says Mayor Elgin Malaluan. “This validates the reforms that we have introduced to improve the lives of our people as well as the economic standing of our town.”Two weeks ago, Mayor Malaluan led the inauguration of the town’s modern two-storey P 33M executive and legislative building, the first municipal building in the island to have an elevator.
